Cleaning a Laser Printer

Back to articles

Have you ever noticed white lines appearing on your printouts? That’s a telltale sign that your printer is in need of a good clean. We would always recommend checking manufacturer’s guidelines if you are planning a good thorough clean however there are a number of common tips, which will keep your printer in tip top condition on a daily basis;

Cleaning Outside your Printer

  1. Ensure printer is switched off before cleaning
  2. Use a moistened, lint free cloth to clean the outside of your machine – a solution of one part vinegar to one part water is a good cleaning solution but make sure you squeeze out any excess liquid before applying to the machine.

Cleaning the Printer

  1. Switch off and allow to cool before you begin.
  2. Remove internal paper trays
  3. Remove toner cartridge and place on a sheet of paper. Cover with a lint free cloth
  4. Clean inside the toner cavity with a dry, lint free cloth and a brush (if you’ve been provided with one)
  5. If you received a brush with your machine then gently dust the printer mirror also.
  6. Remove any paper scraps and dust
  7. Clean the rollers using the cloth again, but be careful not to touch the transfer (sponge) roller
