The loss of a laptop

. . . a common problem these days!

A laptop stolen from a government contractor last month contained a CD Rom, which had more than 207,000 names, address and social security numbers of US Army reservists.

Although this particular theft happened in the US, it’s a familiar story and one we’ve heard often enough in the UK. Leaving a CD Rom containing personal data inside an unattended laptop is most certainly a training issue that needs to be addressed, but there are other simple things we can do to deflect the possibility of either your personal or work laptop – both of which can contain sensitive information – being stolen.
